R.I.P Guru

"The rap world lost one of its most authoritative voices today: Guru, the MC half of the legendary duo Gang Starr."

We actually had a chance to meet this guy briefly in Ottawa a couple years back. He was really nice and didn't get at us for helping ourselves to his beer ( he didn't drink anyways)

Shoot The Moon

Mikael Kennedy is a Brooklyn-based photographer whose wanderlust led him to hit the road for over a decade. Taking part-time jobs, sleeping at gas stations and occasionally even selling his blood for enough cash to buy film, he has always stayed on the move, documenting his Kerouac-esque tour of the America's cities, deserts and hinterlands via his favourite medium – the polaroid camera. Tonight [yesterday], he opens Shoot The Moon at the legendary Chelsea Hotel – an exhibition of 500 of his all-time favourite polaroids, which marks something of a symbolic homecoming for the snap-happy American prodigal and puts him in the company of Chelsea-haunting ghosts such as Mapplethorpe and Burroughs.

Jeezy-Jealous (Prod by Quincy Jones) or Me

Our boy Jeezy ( he's recently dropped the Young)decided to release a snippet of his "Quincy Jones" produced single; which in all honesty could have been done by this guy or this guy seeing how they both share the same name and are family.

Now normally I usually dont post snippets ( simply because i hate them) but this song in particular caught my attention. Here's why. (listen!)

Cartoon Tunes

Anyone that knows me, knows that i have a slight obsession with Old school cartoons from my childhood ( COPS anyone?). Recently, I've managed to find some of the original scores to some of my favorite Saturday morning shows and figured I'd see what i could cook up.

This first track is from the 1967 Spider-Man animated series ( the one that re-used the same swinging scenes over and over) Enjoy.

K'naan gets not love from Somalia

Wavin' Flag

His song "Waving Flag" was made the World Cup anthem, but most Somalians don't even know about K'naan and some of the ones who do think hes crazy. That's no surprise when you think of the influence the Islamist rebels have over there, and the consequences that can happen if your caught entertaining yourself with any means of media. Those damn western infidels and there entertainment! Therefore The Mog doesn't vibe to the freedom sounds. These people gave quotes:

I heard about a Somali man being selected to sing in the World Cup, but I have no idea about that guy and I have never seen him," said Hasan Adan, a Mogadishu teenager.

"I'm really a big fan of great K'naan. I have watched him on the Internet and his song for the World Cup is also so good, but I'm disappointed that I cannot freely watch his songs here in Mogadishu," said Fadumo Moalim Hasan.

"I have the anthem downloaded into my mobile and I can secretly watch it. But if the Shebab guys find me with this song in my cell phone I could face punishment," she said, referring to the Al Qaeda-linked group.

Damn... no wonder these people are mad... living in a hot desert, sand everywhere and no way to entertain yourself, shit i'd be mad too... religion is a sad thing to devote your life to.

"Who understands English in this country. I think a singer who sings in English has no market in this country and that is why few know about K'naan," said Mohamed Ilkase, a Mogadishu resident.

"I watched one of his songs and I can say he is crazy if he believes he could be listened to in Mogadishu," he added.

...Ya'll need to switch to K-OS
